Region 1505 is excited to announce the election of our new Regional Commissioner, Kelly O’Donnell, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our community.
Kelly will work closely with outgoing Commissioner Rob Swenson throughout the Spring season to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition. He will officially step into the role for the Fall 2026 season. Rob will remain an active and valued member of the board as our new EPIC Director, continuing his dedication to making soccer accessible and inclusive for all players.
Honoring Three Years of Leadership
As we look ahead, we also want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate Rob Swenson’s tremendous impact over the past three years as Regional Commissioner.

His commitment to the region has helped shape a positive, thriving environment for players, families, and volunteers alike. We are grateful that he will continue contributing his time and energy in his new role supporting our EPIC program.
A Commissioner Who Started as a Volunteer
Kelly’s journey to Regional Commissioner is a story many in AYSO can relate to—starting with a simple (and slightly reluctant) “yes” to volunteering.
“I first got involved by grudgingly agreeing to coach after seeing an email that without enough coaches, we wouldn’t be able to form teams,” Kelly shared. “I was on crutches at the time, knew nothing about coaching soccer,”
Kelly quickly found his footing at Region 1505. His Boys 12U teams went on to win the region's division final two years in a row—proof that passion, commitment, and community matter far more than prior experience.
A Vision Rooted in Community
Since that first season, Kelly and his family have become deeply connected to Region 1505. Through fall programs, spring select, All Stars, and tournaments, he has coached many players and experienced firsthand the strength of our soccer community.
“As Commissioner, I hope we can continue to grow that community and provide excellent, affordable opportunities for all children to play this wonderful game,” Kelly said. “I feel strongly about providing our boys and girls space to play soccer for fun in a positive, age appropriate environment that prioritizes their enjoyment of sports and their development as players and people.”
His vision reflects the core values of AYSO and the spirit that makes Region 1505 so special.
