Frequently Asked Questions

How is AYSO different form other soccer clubs?
AYSO is a non-profit, volunteer lead organization. We focus on recreational soccer, and accept players at any level of experience.
AYSO plays according to its 6 Philosophies:
  1. Open Registration
  2. Everyone Plays
  3. Balanced Teams
  4. Positive Coaching
  5. Good Sportsmanship
  6. Player Development
How do I request that my child play with another player or with a specific coach?
The 6 Philosophies of AYSO are: Everyone Plays®, Balanced Teams, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, Open Registration and Player Development. Player and coach requests must be addressed in light of these philosophies. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted. Requests should be made to the Region's Coach Administrator at [email protected].
The following can help us to grant a request:
  1. Have your player, and their requested friends (if applicable), attend one of the player evaluation days so that they have a current evaluation. This helps us to ensure Balanced Teams while fulfilling your request.
  2. Limit your request to one friend, or a specific coach. Multiple players all requesting to play together, or with the same coach are difficult to fulfill because of the requirement to attempt to form Balance Teams.
  3. Volunteer! Requests by volunteers are given priority.
What do the division names mean (e.g., 06U, 07U, 08U, 10U, etc.)?
The "U" stands for "under". For example, 06U means "under 6 yrs old" (i.e., 5 yr olds). Most divisions are 2 yr age ranges. For example, 12U means "under 12 yrs old" (i.e., 10 & 11 yr olds). Age is determined by birth year without regard to birth month. This approach was established by U.S. Soccer for consistency across the nation. AYSO, as an organization, elected to comply with this guideline.
Why is my child required to play in a certain division when they don't turn that age until very late in the year?
Age divisions are determined by the players birth year regardless of the month they were born. This approach was established by U.S. Soccer for consistency across the nation. AYSO, as an organization, elected to comply with this guideline. Our experience is that even though they may be "young" for the division, they still have fun and are successful.
I want my child to play in a higher age division. How do I register them for a higher division?
You may request that your player play up at most 1 division (e.g., 06U to 07U, 10U to 12U, etc.). Register your child to play in the division that the system makes available to you during registration. After registration, send an email to the Regional Commissioner at [email protected] with the name of the player and ask that they be moved to a higher division.
I want my child to play in a lower age division. How do I register them for a lower division?
Players are not allowed to play in a lower division except in very rare situations. Player size, maturity or relative age are not reasons to play down. Our experience is that even the youngest/smallest players have fun and are successful in their proper division. Also, for 10U and above, playing down will disqualify them from playoffs, including Regional playoffs. If there is another reason for your player to be considered, email the Regional Commissioner at [email protected].
When are practices?
Practice days and times are determined by the coach in coordination with the team, and based on field availability. Therefore, the practice schedule will not be known until August when coaches are identified and teams formed. It is recommended that 06U & 07U practice once per week for 1 hr. All other divisions will practice 1 or 2 days per week. 1 hr. each time for younger kids, and up to 1.5 hr. each time for 10U and above.
Can I get a refund after I have registered my player(s)?
Refunds can be obtained until the close of registration. Refunds made after payment of the registration fee is 85% of the Division Fee. The AYSO Registration Fee is not refundable. This fee is controlled by the AYSO national organization and is automatically applied by the system upon registration. Optionally, you can have 100% of the Division Fee, as well as the AYSO Registration Fee, credited to the upcoming Spring season.
If you would like to get a credit or obtain a refund, please send an email to [email protected] making your request. If you have more than one player, please make sure you identify which player or players the request is being made for.
Should I sign may child up for Core or EPIC?
The mission of the EPIC, Everyone Plays In our Community, program is to provide athletes with disabilities the additional support they need to fully participate in a quality soccer experience. If you child is not disabled, they should be registered in Core.
